Russell – Scenario

Before we begin let’s go through a scenario.

Russell is an 11-year-old German Shepherd who belongs to the Wilson family.

Russell had a routine and would go for his regular morning walks with Mr Wilson.

It was on these morning walks that Mr Wilson noticed that Russell was not his normal exuberant self. Russell was walking slower and his back legs had started to shake.

Russell continued to have problems so Mr Wilson decided to take him to his vet. On examination the vet ruled out arthritis and informed Mr Wilson that Russell was suffering from degenerative myelopathy – an incurable disease affecting Russell’s spinal column.

The vet gives Mr Wilson some exercises and advice on keeping Russell active and on his feet. The vet also informs Mr Wilson that Russell’s condition is likely to deteriorate affecting his quality of life severely.
